The core difference is actually that the intervention path and depth of effect are different. Both belong to the external treatment system of traditional Chinese medicine. There is no absolute distinction between them, but they have different emphasis on adaptation scenarios. Acupuncture is an invasive external treatment method. Whether it is the stimulation of filiform needles or the warming effect of moxibustion, it can penetrate deep into the muscle layer and acupuncture points through the epidermis, and even regulate the qi and blood of the organs through meridian conduction. It can have faster effects on problems such as pain and organ imbalance in the acute phase.
Last week, I saw a young man suffering from an acute attack of lumbar protrusion. He came in with his waist bent at 90 degrees in pain, and he came in holding the wall. He must not massage directly at this time, otherwise it will easily aggravate the local soft tissue edema and delay his recovery. I first pricked his Weizhong, Shenshu, and Yaoyangguan points. After leaving the needle in place for 20 minutes, he was able to straighten half of his waist. After three days of relief, the acute stage passed. He then used rolling and stretching methods to loosen deep adhesions, and he returned to work normally in less than two weeks.
Patients often ask me whether acupuncture is "more advanced" than massage. In fact, this is not the case at all. This view itself is also a controversial point that has been discussed in the industry. Many masters who are deeply involved in massage believe that as long as the technique is in place, it can penetrate deep-seated lesions and the effect is no worse than acupuncture. Just like the 5-year-old patient who came here a while ago, she had been eating for half a month and didn't like to eat. Her mother was afraid that the child would make trouble if she got an acupuncture, so I taught her the techniques of chiropractic and kneading the door for 10 minutes at home every day. Within a week, the child took the initiative to complain that he was hungry, and he didn't suffer from acupuncture. There are also those office workers who often work overtime. They just stayed up for two nights in a row and their shoulders and necks were stiff. They didn’t bother to go to the hospital to register for acupuncture. They went to a masseur at a regular institution to relax for 20 minutes. The nodules were rubbed away and they felt most comfortable.
If we really want to talk about the experience, the two are quite different. The stimulation of acupuncture is to find the feeling of "deqi", which is sore, numb, swollen, and heavy. Sometimes the feeling of qi will follow the meridians. I used to have an aunt with stiff neck when I gave her Hegu ligation, and the feeling of bloating came directly to her. For shoulders, the neck can be turned as soon as the needle is applied. The feeling of massage is mostly soreness and swelling. It will hurt a little when you press the nodule, and you will feel great when you rub it away. If the deep blockage is severe, you may still be sore for a day or two after pressing it. This is a normal metabolic reaction.
It should be noted that no matter which one you choose, you must find a licensed and regular institution and doctor. I have also treated many patients whose massages were broken in Yeluzi Massage Shop. Either the neck was violently pulled to dislocate the joints, or the needles were not properly disinfected and the infection was caused. I originally wanted to regulate the body but ended up suffering. It is really unnecessary.
