  The new study, completed by scientists at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, conducted a randomized experiment on 198 women of childbearing age aged 18-50. All of the participating women were iron deficient, but none of them suffered from anemia. All participants felt inexplicable fatigue and their ferritin levels were below 50 g/L. This comparative experiment was a double-blind experiment, and neither the participants nor the medical staff knew whether the participants were taking iron supplements or a placebo. The results showed that iron supplementation for 12 weeks could reduce fatigue by 50%, while the fatigue improvement rate of participants in the placebo group was only 19%. After 6 weeks of iron supplementation, the participants' hemoglobin, ferritin and other blood test items were significantly improved.

  The leader of the new study, Dr. Bernard Fafra, said that non-anemic iron-deficient women often experience unexplained fatigue and have ferritin levels below 50 g/L. Iron deficiency may be a potential cause of fatigue in women of childbearing age. Dr. Fafra said that women should not blindly supplement iron without authorization, and iron supplementation must be done under the guidance of a doctor.
