Cavernosclerosis generally does not heal on its own and requires medical intervention to improve symptoms. Cavernosclerosis, also known as Peyronie's disease, is mainly characterized by the formation of fibrotic plaques in the tunica albuginea of the penis, which may cause erection pain or penile curvature. Patients are advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible to assess the severity of their condition.
Cavernosclerosis is a chronic progressive disease. In the early stage, only mild induration or local discomfort may occur. However, if timely intervention is not performed, the plaques may gradually increase and become calcified. Some patients mistakenly believe that rest or heat can relieve symptoms, but fibrotic lesions usually cannot be eliminated by their own metabolism. Common clinical symptoms include obvious bending of the penis during erection, palpable hard nodules, and pain during sexual intercourse. These symptoms will worsen as the disease progresses.
In rare cases, temporary fibroplasia may be caused by a mild inflammatory reaction, and the induration will soften after the inflammation subsides. This situation is often seen in the early stages after trauma, but it does not represent the overall development of the disease. Most patients will need an ultrasound to confirm the location and size of the plaque, and their doctor may recommend injections of collagenase Clostridium histolytica or extracorporeal shock wave therapy. For patients with severe deformities, surgical correction may be the final option.
Patients should avoid massaging or squeezing the induration on their own to prevent local bleeding from aggravating fibrosis. Maintaining moderate exercise can help improve pelvic blood circulation, but strenuous exercise may induce pain. Changes in penis curvature angle can be recorded daily and provided to the doctor for reference during follow-up visits. The intake of vitamin E and L-carnitine can be increased in the diet, but it must be accompanied by regular treatment under the guidance of a doctor. If you find a sudden increase in induration or a sharp decline in erectile function, you must seek medical attention immediately to check for other complications.
