The age of sexual maturity is usually between 12-18 years old, with women on average 1-2 years earlier than men. 1. Development of secondary sexual characteristics

Women present with breast bulge, growth of pubic and armpit hair, and widening of the pelvis； Male symptoms include enlarged testicles, enlarged penis, protruding Adam's apple, and thickened voice. These signs usually begin to appear in early adolescence, usually between the ages of 10 and 14 in females, and between the ages of 12 and 16 in males. The development of secondary sexual characteristics is affected by genetic, nutritional and environmental factors, and there are individual differences.

2. Perfect reproductive function

Menarche is a symbol of women’s menstruation. Most women in my country have menarche between the ages of 12 and 14.； Males are marked by their first nocturnal emission, which usually occurs between the ages of 13 and 15. The maturity of reproductive function requires attention to the regularity of the menstrual cycle and semen quality. Full maturity is usually 1-3 years later than the initial manifestation. The development of the reproductive system is closely related to the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

3. Body growth changes

Sudden growth in height is an important reference. Women usually have a growth peak between the ages of 10 and 12, and men mostly have a growth peak between the ages of 12 and 14. There will be a period of rapid growth for 1-2 years before the bones close. Bone age testing can help determine the progress of development. Weight gain, muscle development, and changes in body fat distribution are also criteria for judgment.

4. Psychological and behavioral adaptation

It manifests as the consolidation of gender identity, emergence of sexual interest and improvement of emotional management ability. Psychological maturity often lags behind physical development and requires correct guidance from family and school. Awakening psychological consciousness too early or too late may affect healthy development.

5. Medical testing indicators

Including sex hormone level testing, ultrasound examination of reproductive organ development, bone age assessment, etc. Levels of hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, testosterone, and estradiol provide a quantitative assessment of developmental stage. Medical evaluation can detect abnormalities such as precocious puberty or delayed sexual development.

It is recommended that parents pay attention to their children's development rhythm, regularly record changes in height and weight, and seek medical attention promptly if any abnormalities are found. Maintain a balanced diet, supplement high-quality protein and minerals in appropriate amounts, and avoid exposure to environmental endocrine disruptors. Carry out age-appropriate sex education to help teenagers correctly understand body changes and establish healthy gender concepts.
