When using leucorrhea pH test paper to detect pH, you need to compare the test paper with the color chart after contacting the vaginal secretions. The normal vaginal pH value is 3.8-4.5. If the pH exceeds 4.5, it may indicate abnormalities such as bacterial vaginosis.
Vaginal secretion pH testing is a commonly used preliminary screening method in gynecology. During the operation, you need to use a clean cotton swab to take the secretions from the posterior vaginal fornix, apply it evenly on the reaction area of the test paper, wait for 10-15 seconds, and then compare it with the standard color card. The vaginal environment of healthy women of childbearing age is slightly acidic, and the microecology dominated by Lactobacillus can maintain the pH in the range of 3.8-4.5. This acidic environment can inhibit the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms. When the pH value rises above 4.5, it may be related to vaginal microecological imbalance, which is common in bacterial vaginosis. At this time, lactobacilli decrease and anaerobic bacteria increase, and the secretions are often accompanied by a fishy smell. Patients with trichomonas vaginitis often have a pH value above 5.0, while the pH of vulvovaginal candidiasis usually remains within the normal range. Menstrual periods should be avoided during testing, and sexual intercourse, vaginal douching or topical medication should be avoided 24 hours before sampling to avoid interfering with the results. If pH abnormalities are found during self-test at home, a comprehensive judgment must be made based on secretion characteristics and odor changes. If a single abnormality is detected, it is recommended to repeat the test to confirm.
If the pH value is detected to be abnormally elevated multiple times in a row, or is accompanied by symptoms such as increased secretion, color change, vulvar itching, etc., you should promptly seek medical attention for routine leucorrhea examination, amine test and other professional evaluations. Daily care should be taken to keep the perineum clean and dry, avoid frequent use of lotions to rinse the vagina, choose cotton breathable underwear, and use antibiotics rationally. If necessary, vaginal probiotic preparations can be supplemented under the guidance of a doctor to help restore the microecological balance.
